Whale sharks are the world’s largest 昀椀sh (despite what
their name suggests, they are sharks rather than whales),
usually growing to around 12 meters, sometimes reaching
up to 20 meters and weighing over 20 tons. They can live
up to 150 years and are found in warm and tropical waters all around the world, from the Caribbean to the Indian Ocean, from the Paci昀椀c to the Red Sea. They are 昀椀lter
feeders, which means they process over 6,000 liters of water every hour, 昀椀ltering out the shrimp, 昀椀sh and plankton
they feed on.
