MIDNIGHT SUN
Disko Bay, Greenland
“Midnight sun in Greenland, when the sun never sets or just sets slightly
in July, giving incredible light all night long.”
Daniel Kordan
BEYOND THE FRAME
Photographer Daniel Kordan says the photo was taken around midnight
in Greenland, “where the breathtaking landscapes meet the midnight
sun”. He remembers being “drawn to this remote, untamed destination
to capture the interplay of light and nature”, adding that “the red sails
gliding through the serene waters at midnight embodied the quiet
beauty of Greenland, where nature’s vastness and calm create moments
of pure magic and re昀氀ection.”
The Ilulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
located 250 km north of the Arctic Circle, on the west
coast of Greenland. It is connected to Sermeq Kujalleq,
one of the most active glaciers in the world, which annually calves over 35 km3 of ice – more than any other glacier
outside of Antarctica. The ice-stream is also one of the
fastest in the world, at 40 meters per day.
