BEYOND THE FRAME
Tahiti-based photographer Kirvan Baldassari says Shark Bay in Western
Australia is a place he had always dreamed of visiting. He said that “the
surreal landscape, with its striking contrasts and unique formations,
felt like stepping into another world” and that “seeing it in person and
capturing its beauty through [his] lens was an unforgettable experience.”
Situated on the west coast of Australia, Shark Bay is a
UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stromatolites
(colonies of microbial mats that form hard, dome-shaped
deposits and are thought to be the oldest forms of life on
Earth), as well as one of the largest seagrass beds in the
world. It is also home to a big population of dugongs, as
well as many dolphins, turtles, rays and sharks.
